Panamax Bulk Carrier Heavy Weather Damage Salvage Operation

Panamax Bulk Carrier Heavy Weather Damage Salvage Operation

On December 11th 2022, a Panamax Bulk Carrier fully laden with Iron Ore fines, encountered heavy weather and suffered hull damage (cracks) and water ingress into her Cargo Hold No.1 whilst en route to her discharging port in China. The Casualty seeked refuge to an anchorage in Taiwan and her owners proceeded with signing an LOF Salvage Agreement with Vernicos-Scafi.

A specialized salvage team was promptly mobilized to the Casualty and proceeded with urgent underwater repairs and dewatering of Cargo Hold No.1, in order to stabilize the vessels’ condition. Further steel work repairs were conducted in the anchorage for the casualty to continue her voyage to the discharge port.

The vessel was safely delivered back to her owners after approximately two months, on successful termination of the salvage services.
